Introducing ECBC’s #SelfcareSeptember

September? Already? Yes, August has left us and I’ve already got all my autumn clothes ready.

What a month it’s been! When we started this organisation we didn’t imagine within the first few months we have as many followers and reactions to our posts. We just want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has ever read/shared/liked our posts or taken the time to follow us online. We want to help those living with a mental illness and you can all help us with that.

So what is September bringing? Well our events have received a wonderful response – our August Walk and Talk on a Saturday morning was a hit, so we’ve decided to organise another Saturday morning walk in September! We are also running our first Bru & a Natter event this morning at Expo Lounge in Didsbury at 10:30am. Feel free to come along and have a chat. We hope to arrange a wide variety of event so please feel free to contact us with any suggestions and we can try and make arrangements.

So onto our big news… Self-care September. We will be running our own special project over the next 30 days to promote the importance of self-care for health and well-being.

What is Self-care?

In the dictionary self-care is described as ‘the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one’s own health’. Sounds pretty simple right?

PLOT TWIST: it’s not.

Living with a mental illness can be extremely challenging, but what I have found through my own experiences is that I tend to value others highly and put my needs last on the priority list. This is where the importance of self-care comes in and the message behind it.


Selfcare September

Here at ECBC we are a massive fans of the 365 Days of Selfcare movement. Not only that but we would like to get on board and help raise awareness of self-care and how it can help with a healthy wellbeing. As the clock strikes and September 1st begins, so does ECBC’s month of self-care. 30 days of looking after ourselves, focusing on our wellness and self-help practices. Now before you ask us, we’re not suggesting putting on a face mask for 30 days in a row – we wouldn’t advise this practice as you may not be able to feel your face by October.

What we are suggesting is completing one practice of self-care every day of September. Now, thinking of 30 different types of self-care can be daunting, but don’t worry – we’ve done the hard work for you.

Everyday we will be promoting a different of self care idea that can be adapted to your situation, health and mood.

We’ve also handy calendar to help you keep track of your goals! You don’t have to do any of the goals in a particular order, you can complete the activities when you see fit and feel like it and there’s no pressure to have to stick to a certain routine.
